With 91 lakh new subscribers, Idea remained second in this case, the total number of its subscribers is now 21.12 crores. Bharti Airtel was at third place. It added 8.4 million new customers in March and the total number of its subscribers was 30.41 million. Vodafone added 56 lakh customers and its total subscriber base increased to 22.26 crore.
Bharti Airtel still remains the largest telecom company in the country and its market share is 25.70 percent. Vodafone is in second place, with market share of 18.82 percent. Idea third and Jio are ranked fourth with 17.85 percent market share. Jio’s market share is 15.76 percent.
The merger of Idea and Vodafone is in the final stage and the newly formed company will be the largest telecom company in the country, which will give a tough competition to Reliance Jio. On the one hand, the number of subscribers of private telecom companies is increasing, while the number of MTNL, RCom, and Telenom subscribers declined during March.
In March, 7700 subscribers of MTNL got out of the network. 5 million customers of RCom have chosen the new operator, while 13 million customers from Telenor left it. The total wireless subscriber base in the country has increased to 118.3 million, from 115.6 million in February.
